Definition – the procedure in which medication is administered through nasal
route is called ‘Nasyam’.
Nasyam is a Therapeutic Procedure among 5 Panchkarmas for Purification of
body.Nasyam is mainly for the purification of body parts above the Neck or
URDWANG. Nasyam is also used as an important treatment to nourish all the
structures.
The nasal opening is major passage to the head and has connection with all
another opening of the eyes, ear and mouth as well where ever need to clear out
internal passages.
Procedure-Patient is made to lie on the massage table, a small is pillow is kept
behind the neck so that the head is in a lower position. Facial massage is done for
few minutes by using medicated oil followed by mild steam to face after covering
the eyes. Once the steaming is completed, two drops of medicated or gargling oil
is instilled into the nostrils. The guest has to inhale deeply so that the medicine
mixed with mucus gets accumulated in the throat. After that mucus should be
spitted out and patient is asked to gargle with salt water.
After Nasyam, Patient should avoid day sleep, residing in conditioning Room, cold
food and drinks and direct sunlight.
Indications-Nasyam is useful in almost all disorders of eyes like Glaucoma,
Macular degeneration (both juvenile and ARMD),Dry eye
syndrome,Uveitis,Diabetic Retinopathy, Myopia and related
degenerations,Sclerits,Optic Neuritis and Optic atrophy, Corneal Degenerations
and Dystrophy, Eyelid disorders and Other Neuro-Opthalmic disorders,
Nasyam is good to prevents sinusitis, Migraine, headache, deviated nasal septum,
dust, nasal drip and grey hair, acne etc…
headaches, migraine, and malabsorption, some types of diabetes, allergies and
skin diseases.
Contraindications-Nasyam should not be administrated to pregnant women and
in same conditions Like Acute fever, vomiting and for women who recently
delivered.
